2027: Atiku, Obi Deny Power-Sharing Deal
By Femi Ogundele
Former presidential candidates Atiku Abubakar and Peter Obi have denied reports of a power-sharing agreement ahead of the 2027 general elections.
Recents media reports had claimed that Atiku, candidate of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in the 2023 election, offered Peter Obi of the Labour Party (LP) the vice-presidential slot on a joint ticket, with a promise to serve only one term if elected.
Obi dismissed the report during a public event on Monday, describing it as “selfish politics that undermines national progress.”
His words: “I am in coalition against hunger, poverty, unemployment and bad governance. That’s where I stand. Politics for me is not about position but doing the right thing. ”
He promised to remain focus on promoting good governance and addressing national issues.
Atiku also denied the claim through his media aide, Paul Ibe, who said discussions about a possible coalition are still at a preliminary stage.
“If we are already discussing positions, it’s like putting the cart before the horse. The process is ongoing and focused on building a viable alternative platform,” Ibe said.
