2027: Only APC Can Give PDP Chance in Kwara -Towoju
A former Commissioner for Communications and Stalwart of All Progressives Congress, Hon. Olabode George Towoju has stated the main opposition Party, the Peoples Democratic Party(PDP) stand no chance of winning 2027 general elections in Kwara State.
Towoju disclosed this on Friday while fielding questions from journalists at his office in Ilorin.
The former Commissioner however cautioned APC to ensure inclusiveness and consultation before selecting candidates for 2027 general elections. Noting that PDP and African Democratic Congress are positioning themselves to capitalise on APC implosion.
Speaking on zoning, he said APC is yet to take position, stressing that the governorship should be open to all qualified Kwarans, regardless of their regional origin.
“Next Kwara Governor can come from any part of the state. I will not support a candidate that would focus on his/her region. I will support credible candidate with good agenda from Kwara South or any part of the state.” He added.
According to him, Kwara South also has intelligent and resourceful Youth with capacity to deliver. They can consolidate on OTOGE gains
He however expressed his disappointment with some lawmakers in the Kwara State House of Assembly who have publicly declared support for specific candidate ahead of the elections.
According to him, early endorsements by lawmakers distract them from their official duties.
The former Commissioner also berated a local government chairman who allegedly blocked ₦200 million project facilitated by Senator Saliu Mustapha. He implored Public Office Holders to shun anti-development moves in the name of loyalty, describing such as action as sycophancy taken too far.
Reflecting on the 2019 Òtògé Movement, Towoju emphasized that the people’s genuine will, rather than narrow-minded political agendas, should determine the future direction of Kwara politics.
On the controversial notion by Hon Gidado Alakawa that aspirants need the governor’s approval before contesting, he dismissed it as undemocratic and against the tenet of democracy.
Towoju accused some political players of using the governor’s name to push personal interests. He clarified that Governor AbdulRahman AbdulRazaq is not positioning himself as a godfather but is the recognized party leader inline with APC constitution.
The Oke-ero born Politicians praised President Bola Ahmed Tinubu for appointing many Kwarans including people from Kwara South to serve in his administration.
Towoju used the opportunity to hint or his political aspiration for 2027. “I am still consulting. I may contest because political consultations are already underway for the 2027 elections.
