2027: Towoju Reacts As Lawmakers Begin Campaign for Danladi Amidst Insecurity in Kwara South
The former Kwara State Commissioner, Olabode Towoju has berated lawmakers and other Politicians for campaigning amidst insecurity ravaging Kwara South Senatorial district.
Towoju in a statement issued on Friday described, a viral video showing some elected officials from Kwara South, shamelessly violating the Electoral Act by campaigning for a governorship aspiration.
Recall that the Deputy Speaker Kwara State House of Assembly, Hon Ojo Olayiwola in the viral video canvassed support for zoning of governorship ticket to Kwara North while announcing Speaker, Yakubu Danladi as their preferred candidate.
According to Towoju, this reckless act is nothing short of a national embarrassment. At a time when Kwara South, especially Ifelodun Local Government, the epicenter of insecurity in our state is facing grave threats, these politicians, including Local Government Chairmen and Members of the Kwara State House of Assembly, abandoned their constitutional duties to stage a premature governorship campaign in Oyun.
The former Commissioner added: “This display is not only insensitive, it is a criminal breach of the Electoral Act, 2022. Section 82(1) & (2) prohibits political campaigns outside the legal window. Section 92(1) criminalizes any campaign staged before the official period Section 92(6) prescribes fines and imprisonment for offenders.
“While lives and livelihoods are being destroyed in Kwara South and parts of Kwara North, these so called leaders are busy campaigning for next ambition, insulting the intelligence of our people, and ridiculing the very laws they swore to uphold.”
Towoju also lambasted the Politicians for attempting to trade with Governor Abdulrahman Abdulrazaq’s name.
“Even worse, they dragged the name of our Governor into their political circus, an act that disrespects the dignity of his office and insults every right thinking Kwara citizen.
“Let the truth be told, this is not loyalty. This is recklessness that endangers the very individual they pretend to support. Kwara South deserves leaders with a sense of quality judgment and respect for the rule of law, not opportunists who gamble with insecurity and ambition at the same time.”
