A Peep Into Ogun State’s Infrastructure Reality Under Dapo Abiodun

By Femi Ogundele

As 2025 unfolds, Governor Dapo Abiodun’s administration continues to take bold steps towards improving Ogun State’s infrastructure. With an emphasis on tackling long-standing issues in road development, his promises for the year ahead are ambitious.

While the progress of 2024 may seem promising, the reality on the ground is more complicated, and the full impact of his efforts remains uncertain. Abiodun has set ambitious targets for infrastructural development, with road construction taking center stage.

According to the Governor, approximately 700 kilometers of roads were completed in 2024, covering all three senatorial districts. In high-traffic areas like Akute, Agbara, and Sango-Otta Abiodun administration is addressing what was once a major headache for residents.

Interestingly, these projects have garnered praise, they are also symbolic of the broader infrastructural problems that have plagued the state for decades.

To be frank, Governor Abiodun has been very involved. He often shows up at construction sites to Contractors deliver on time. Roads like the Ota-Abeokuta Expressway are getting attention, with some parts already getting new asphalt. These efforts seem promising. But will these roads last? There are worries that they could fall apart like many past projects due to lack of care.

Apart from that, there’s also roadwork happening in rural and sub-urban areas. Projects like the Tai Solarin Way in Ikenne are moving forward. Many hope these roads will cut down travel time.

While some praise the governor for being transparent, critics say progress isn’t fast enough. Urban areas may see new roads, but many rural communities still lack basic services. Even though the governor is trying to his best but not all parts of the state are feeling the effects. Many rural folks are stuck with the same old road problems, making it hard to see the benefits of the new projects.

Abiodun’s focus on road construction stands out, but there are worries that this focus is more about appearances than real change. A lot of attention is on the flashy new roads. The risk is that these projects might not bring the growth and improvements that the people really need. If these roads aren’t kept up, they could quickly go back to being in bad shape.

There are also voices of concern from the opposition. While the governor celebrates new roads, many wonder if they’ll see real improvement. It seems the governor’s efforts are concentrated in cities, leaving rural areas in the dark. This raises concerns that he’s only focusing on one part of a much bigger problem. Areas like healthcare and education also need help.

Looking to 2025, the governor has more plans for roads and infrastructure upgrades. Abiodun has shown he wants to improve infrastructure, but questions about lasting change linger. Quick improvements are great, but real success needs solid plans to maintain what’s built. We’ll have to wait and see if these projects will make a real difference in Ogun State or just fall flat.

As the year goes on, it’s key to look at not only how many roads are being built but also how those roads impact the everyday lives of people. Good infrastructure should lead to real change that supports economic growth and tackles ongoing issues. In 2025, we’ll see if Abiodun can meet these challenges and if the people of Ogun will see his words turn into action or just more empty promises.

Ultimately, the result of these projects will shape both the governor’s legacy and Ogun State’s future. The road ahead is uncertain, but whether Abiodun’s efforts bring the change people are waiting for will depend on the actions taken in the coming months.
