Former Delta State Governor Ifeanyi Okowa said  former Vice President Atiku Abubakar is preparing to leave the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) ahead of the 2027 general elections.

Okowa made the disclosure during an interview on Arise News on Tuesday, days after defecting to the All Progressives Congress (APC) along with the PDP structure in Delta State.

“I also know that he is already heading out of the PDP from the communications he has passed on to me, and that Nigerians know already,” Okowa said.

The PDP Vice Presidential Candidate also revealed that he informed Atiku of the stakeholders’ meetings that led to his defection from the PDP, citing discomfort with the party’s direction.

Okowa further expressed regret over accepting the role of vice-presidential candidate to Atiku in the 2023 election, acknowledging that many southerners were opposed to another northern presidency.

“Even when we were campaigning, I realised our people were not interested in having another northerner come into power after Buhari”. he said.
