Benue Killing: PDP Challenges Governor Alia to Name Killers

The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in Benue State has challenged Governor Hyacinth Alia to publicly name the politicians he accused of being behind the recent killings in the state.

In a statement issued on Saturday, the PDP described the governor’s claims as irresponsible and a distraction from addressing the security crisis in Benue.

Governor Alia had earlier alleged in a live interview on Channels TV that some Benue political office holders in Abuja were responsible for the insecurity in the state.

Reacting, the PDP’s Publicity Secretary, Tim Nyor, accused the governor of engaging in blame-shifting and political escapism.

He urged Alia to focus on practical solutions rather than making unsubstantiated claims.

“Benue’s security challenges are not unique; neighboring states such as Plateau and Taraba face similar threats but have adopted more responsible approaches,” the PDP said.

The party noted that attacks by armed herdsmen in Benue have persisted across previous administrations, including those of Governors Samuel Ortom and Gabriel Suswam, who acknowledged the threat without shifting blame.

The PDP warned that Alia’s allegations could undermine ongoing efforts to restore peace and called on him to submit credible security reports to the appropriate authorities.

It added that while the governor enjoys immunity from prosecution, those he accuses in Abuja do not.

The opposition party concluded by urging Governor Alia to abandon the politics of blame and adopt inclusive, responsible strategies to address the state’s insecurity.
