CO Adebayo Worked Tirelessly For Political Relevance of North Central – Gbenga Hashim

A former Presidential Candidate Dr. Gbenga Olawepo-Hashim has hailed the resilience and commitment of Chief Cornelius Olatunji Adebayo, former Governor of Kwara State to ensure political relevance of North Central Zone.

Dr. Hashim in a statement issued on Friday described the Late Adebayo as a symbol of principled leadership in Nigeria.

According to him, Chief Adebayo was not only a man of impeccable integrity, but also an intellectual and political pathfinder whose life and career inspired many of us.

Recounting his experience with former Kwara Governor, he said: “I recall with deep personal reflection that my very first political engagement was in support of his Governorship bid in 1983. That formative experience ignited in me a lifelong commitment to politics founded on values, service, and courage.”

He added that Chief Adebayo played a critical role in shaping the political direction and leadership consciousness of the North Central zone and the Middle Belt.

“He understood the unique identity, challenges, and potential of our region and worked tirelessly to chart a course for its political relevance and development within the broader Nigerian federation.” Hashim added.

“We had a leader who never wavered in his commitment to justice, democracy, and national unity. His life was a reminder that politics can indeed be grounded in decency, intellect, and service to humanity. His passing is a monumental loss, not only to his family and the people of Kwara State but also to the entire North Central, the Middle Belt, and Nigeria at large.”

Dr. Hashim added that “his ideals live on, and his legacy will continue to guide us as we strive to build a more just, united, and prosperous nation.

“On behalf of my family, friends, and political associates, I extend my deepest condolences to the Adebayo family, the government and people of Kwara State, and all those who mourn this irreparable loss.”

He concluded by praying that “may God grant us the wisdom to sustain the noble ideals he lived for.”
