FMBN Commissions 257 housing units in Katsina

The Federal Mortgage Bank of Nigeria (FMBN) on Tuesday commissioned 257 housing units in Katsina State.

The project situated in Daura is part of the Federal Government’s drive to provide affordable and accessible  housing to Nigerians

The project consists of 80 semi-detached bungalows, comprising 2- and 3-bedrooms, and was financed by the bank under the Ministerial Pilot Housing Scheme (MPHS) in collaboration with the Federal Ministry of Works & Housing. This is part of the bank’s broader mission to alleviate Nigeria’s housing crisis.

The commissioning ceremony, which was a significant milestone, was actually a combination of four events rolled into one, with three other estates in different parts of Katsina State ready for commissioning.

This includes 69 housing units in Funtua for the Medical and Health Workers Union of Nigeria, 54 housing units in Mulunfashi for the Medical and Health Workers Union of Nigeria, and 54 housing units in Kankia for the Medical and Health Workers Union of Nigeria.

Speaking at the event, the Managing Director/Chief Executive FMBN, Mr. Madu Hamman represented by the Executive Director of Loans and Mortgage Services at FMBN, Lukman O. Mustapha, said the concentration of FMBN sponsored housing projects in Katsina State is a testimony to the special position the state occupies in the National Housing Fund (NHF) scheme due to its consistency and unqualified support for the scheme. Mr. Hamman commended the consistent support of the Katsina State Executive Governor, Alhaji Aminu Bello Masari, without which the delivery of some of these projects would have been difficult.

The FMBN MD/CE added that the FMBN has financed and successfully delivered 11 other housing projects located across Katsina State under various loan windows, in addition to the four projects commissioned, with the bank committing over N7.7 billion to deliver 1,571 housing units.

“Eleven other housing projects located across the State have also been financed and successfully delivered by FMBN under our various loan windows in addition to the four projects we are commissioning today, with the Bank committing more than N7.7b to deliver 1,571 housing units.

The concentration of FMBN sponsored housing projects in Katsina State is a testimony to the special position the State occupies in the NHF scheme due to its consistency and unqualified support for the scheme. I have no doubt that the mutually beneficial relationship between the State and the Bank will continue to be maintained”, he said.

Providing some context, the FMBN MD/CE said that the Bank has also replicated these efforts across Nigeria, commissioning projects to tackle the housing deficit and provide affordable homes for Nigerians. Mr. Hamman revealed that in January, the bank commissioned over 1,000 housing units across Borno, Adamawa, Yobe, Ebonyi, Ondo, Sokoto, Kogi, and Katsina States. The second phase began last week with the unveiling of two estate projects in Lagos, to be followed by projects in Enugu, Imo, Kano, Jigawa, Kwara States, FCT, as well as Katsina State.

The Katsina State Governor, HE Alhaji Bello Masari, on his part, commended the effort of the Buhari-led administration at making housing available and affordable to low-income earners, especially civil servants.

Masari, represented by the General Manager of Katsina State Housing Authority, Auwalu Abubakar, assured that the state government would always partner with organizations to promote the interest of the citizens.
