Free Public Transport: Oyelola Lauds Kwara Governor, Urges Govt To Procure More Buses

A Public Affairs Analyst and Lecturer in the Department of Mass Communication, Federal Polytechnic Ado-Ekiti, Oyewale Oyelola has commended Kwara State Governor, AbdulRahman AbdulRazaq over the deployment of government buses to support the movement of students and workers in public tertiary institutions in the state free.

Oyelola gave the commendation on Wednesday when he visited Soludero Mass Transit Park in Post Office, Ilorin.

According to him, the initiative of Governor AbdulRahman AbdulRazaq to cushion effect of fuel subsidy removal is commendable. It will reduce the burden of high transportation cost for staff and students.

He however observed that the 10 buses available for the free transport would be overstretched and lead to long hour on queue as well as overloading.

Oyelola therefore implored Governor Abdulrazaq to procure more buses in order to make the intervention effective.

“I will advice Governor AbdulRahman AbdulRazaq led administration to procure more buses for Sulodero Mass Transit and design sustainable plan to address transportation challenge of Public tertiary institutions students/staff within Ilorin Metropolis. The state government can introduce fee because the free transport service may not be sustainable based on current economic reality.” He explained.
