Gbenga Hashim Meets Barrister Kunle Sulyman, Reflects on Kwara’s Political Journey
Former presidential candidate, Global energy expert, and philanthropist, Gbenga Olawepo-Hashim, paid a heartfelt condolence visit to Barrister Kunle Sulyman at his Adewole residence in Ilorin today.
The visit was to console Barrister Sulyman on the loss of his son, Abdulrazaq Sulyman, whose passing has left family and friends grieving.
Speaking during the visit, Gbenga Hashim described Barrister Sulyman not just as an elder brother and friend but also a comrade with whom he shared a transformative vision for Kwara State.
Reflecting on their enduring relationship, he highlighted their joint efforts in 1998, alongside Alhaji Iliasu of Moro, to challenge entrenched political structures and advocate for change in the state.
“At a time when many believed that change from the status quo was impossible, we took up the challenge,” Hashim recounted.
“Barrister Kunle Sulyman was at the forefront of that battle as Chairman of our party. His leadership, alongside contributions from His Excellency Alhaji Shaba Lafiaji and myself, laid the foundation for what became a historic transformation in 1999.”
Hashim further reminisced on their historic journey, noting how the trio – Barrister Sulyman, Lafiaji, and himself – were nominated as ministerial candidates when their party formed the government that year.
Their collective efforts, he said, marked the beginning of a new political era in Kwara State, inspiring a generation of reformists and change-makers.
While expressing his deep condolences, Hashim emphasized the enduring legacy of Barrister Sulyman’s contributions to Kwara’s political history and prayed for strength for the bereaved family during this challenging time.
The visit underscored the bonds forged during Kwara’s political revolution, even as it served as a moment to honor the memory of Abdulrazaq Sulyman and the resilience of a family that has shaped the state’s political landscape.
