Globacom has expressed its commitment to encouraging young girls to strive to realise their potential.
The company had on Thursday supported the celebration of the International Day of the Girl Child with the sponsorship of a forum held in Lagos.
Globacom’s Manager, Public Sector, Lagos, Mrs. Justina Abdulateef, said the company partnered the organisers of the event to help realise the objectives of the girl child day and to encourage young girls to strive to realise their potential.
She encouraged girls to rise above discrimination that had prevented many girls from pursuing their dreams, adding that with determination, they would excel in areas such as engineering and ICT, which she said was currently dominated by men.
The Convener of the forum, Mrs. Ufuoma Emuophedaro, noted that the objectives of the International Girl Child Day was to spread awareness about issues faced by girls and to promote girls’ empowerment and fulfillment of their human rights while also highlighting the challenges that girls all over the world face.
At the event, former Lagos State Deputy Governor, Mrs. Sarah Sosan, lauded Globacom for showing interest in programmes aimed at promoting the welfare of the girl child.
