Gombe Awards N2.9bn Contract for GSU- Malam Inna Gully Erosion Control Project
Gombe State Government has awarded a contract worth over N2.9 billion for the State University to Malam Inna erosion control works to Triacta Nigeria Limited through the Nigeria Erosion and Watershed Management Project, NEWMAP.
Speaking during the signing of the contract agreement at Government House, Gombe, Governor Muhammadu Inuwa Yahaya, represented by the Secretary to the State Government, Prof. Ibrahim Abubakar Njodi said the signing of the contract was a testament of his administration’s commitment to addressing the devastation caused by gullies in the state.
He said his administration has always been disturbed by incessant flooding in the state caused by gullies which have affected infrastructure, lives, property and people’s means of livelihoods.
The Governor maintained that the signing of the contract was the culmination of the struggle to sustain the environment and protect lives and property through engagement with the World Bank and other development partners, adding that his administration will stop at nothing until the degraded environment is improved on and the menace of gullies addressed.
He called on the Gombe State NEWMAP and the State Ministry of Environment and Forest Resources to ensure that the company completes the job within the stipulated time and does not compromise standard in carrying out the work.
Speaking earlier, the state Commissioner of Environment and Forest Resources, Dr. Hussaina Danjuma Goje said, the contract was awarded in accordance with the World Bank’s procurement regulations and guidelines to Triacta Nigeria Limited following acceptance of the recommendation of the evaluation team by the World Bank.
“The Company was found to be the most advantageous bidder having submitted the lowest responsive evaluated bid”, she added.
The Commissioner commended Governor Inuwa Yahaya for his commitment towards achieving NEWMAP’s objectives in the state which has reflected in the payment of counterpart contribution of N500 million by Gombe state Government.
In his remarks, the Project Coordinator, Gombe State NEWMAP, Engr. Mohammed Garba said the Gombe State University-Malam Inna erosion site consists of 3 communities that include the State University, Malam-Inna, and Kagarawal with a combined length of 4.4km.
Engr. Garba explained that the project is expected to be completed before June 2021.
In his remarks after signing the contract, Engr. Imran Amin Khan, on behalf of the managing director of Triacta Nigeria Limited said his company has a long history of infrascturacural relationship with Gombe State and assured of executing quality job within the agreed contract period and specifications.
The contract agreement was signed on behalf of the Gombe State government by the Gombe State NEWMAP Project Coordinator, Engr. Mohammed Garba, and the Procurement Officer, Abdulkadir Ibrahim Jalo, while Imran Amin Khan and Lateef Abboud signed on behalf of Triacta Nigeria Limited.
