The management of Kwara State Polytechnic (KwaraPoly) has introduced measures and policies to block leakages, stop wasteful spending, maximize cost of running the school and increase Internally Generated Revenue (IGR).
The Rector of the institution, Dr. Abdul Jimoh Mohammed disclosed during a Press Conference at the Polytechnic Conference Hall.
Dr. Abdul Jimoh Mohammed said has blocked all leakages on School fee collection and Payment for Certificate channels as well as Wage Bill of staff of the Polytechnic.
He noted that the introduction of technology and verification of staff BVN has eliminated sharp practices associated with salary/allowances payment.
”We have normalized the payroll of the Polytechnic by eliminating sharp practices. Some staff are collecting salary structure for higher levels for instance some workers on level 12 are collecting salary structure for level 14. We exposed this abnormalities through staff audit:” He explained.
The Rector also highlighted some of the Polytechnic management’s efforts to improve Internally Revenue Generated (IGR) with the view of meeting financial obligations and keep the school running effectively.
According to him, within one year of taking over the leadership of Kwara State Polytechnic, we have established Microfinance Bank, starts bottle water factory, revived moribund sachet water production, bakery unit and block moulding.
Reeling out his achievements in area of Infrastructural development, Dr Mohammed said renovation of Staff Quarters and School Clinic, improvement on water supply within the campus, installation of Solar light, construction of Horticultural Garden as well as provision of internet connectivity on campus were executed under his leadership.
On Staff welfare/development, Mohammed disclosed that promotion, conversion and recognition of additional qualifications acquired by staff are ready cleared, saying the clearing the arrears of promotion is ongoing.
”Conversion of staff of needy academic department will also be done before the end of the first quarter of 2021.” He added.
Kwarapoly used the opportunity to commend Governor Abdulrahman Abdulrazaq, Commissioner of Tertiary Education, Science and Technology, Sa’adu Madibbo Kawu and Governing Council members for providing necessary support to take the Polytechnic to greater heights.
He also thanked other Principal Officers of the Institution and Staff work assiduously to improve rating of KwaraPoly among Polytechnics across Nigeria.
