…Says Kwara South Will Get Juicy Projects in 2024 Budget
The Deputy Senate Leader and Senator representing Kwara South Senatorial district, Arc Oyelola Ashiru has stated that his Constituency will get more projects and impactful projects in 2024 budget.
Senator Oyelola Ashiru disclosed this on Wednesday while hosting Association of Kwara Online Media Practitioners (ASKOMP) to Media Parley in his Offa GRA Residence.
The Senator said interest of all the seven local government areas in Kwara South are covered in 2024 budget recently signed by President Bola Tinubu.
According to him, the people of Kwara South will get fair share of 2024 budget in terms of constituency projects, programmes and capital projects. We ensure speedy implementation of the projects in order to impact our Constituents lives positively. I am sure by next year, we will be here counting projects and receiving commendation from benefiting Communities and individuals.
“We have a lot of zonal interventions, capital projects and infrastructural projects in the budget. I can assure Kwara South people that 2024 will be juicy in terms of projects and interventions. Let’s be on the lookout. We have done a lot in the last five years but we are coming higher and the result will begin to trickling in from this year.” Senator Ashiru added.
The Offa born Politician said he has facilitated construction of nine Vocational Centres ( which he described as economic centres) to empower youth, women and others as well as create sustainable job.
His words: “I think we have constructed nine Vocational Centres which I usually describe as Economic Centres. We are planning to build 12; three in Ifelodun local government, two in Offa, two in Irepodun LG and one each in Isin, Oke-ero, Ekiti and Oyun councils. We are planning to collaborate with Institutions for our Youths to get certification after training. We are discussing partnership with Federal Polytechnic Offa. I met their management team last week. We want to institutionalize this arrangement to make it stand test of time.
While speaking on insecurity challenge in the country, he said collaborative efforts from all stakeholders including two House of Representatives members, Kwara Assembly members and others to address the situation.
The Senator applauded Governor AbdulRahman AbdulRazaq for his efforts in enhancing security architecture of Kwara South and other parts of the state, noting that there cannot be economic development without security.
On Ilorin-Kabba (Kogi) Highway, Ashiru said bad road infrastructure is a log in the wheel of socio-economic development of the country.
While acknowledging the importance of the road to Kwara South, the Deputy Senate Leader said: ” Actually, it is difficult to allocate resources to all bad roads in the country. However, I will appeal to Federal Government, especially Honorable Minister of Works to prioritize our major highways including Ilorin-Kabba road. I am working with Senator representing Kogi West to get attention of the Minister. Fortunately, I take over from him as Deputy Senate Leader and believe he would listen to us.”
On Education, The Senator said the University of Archeology Esie is still in pipeline and will be a reality, noting that the country need to restore history in our curriculum.
He also advocated for location of proposed Kwara State University of Education in Oro, Irepodun local government area, saying existing College of Education has facilities to host the University.
On Alkhadriyah family kidnapped, Senator Ashiru sympathized with the family and other affected by insecurity in Nigeria. He said the 10th Senate is working openly and behind closed doors to put an end to the suffering of Nigerains.
“All hands must be on deck to address the insecurity. The Federal government, states and local government areas have roles to play and must be played appropriately.”
2027 politics, Senator Ashiru said: “All Aspirations are welcome and it is not illegal. But as a Politician and an Office Holder, it seems too early. Let’s work hard first and do politics at the right time. Kwara State don’t do zoning. It is all about politics of interest. Anybody that want to contest should work hard and convince the people to seek their votes. We need somebody that is ready and competent.
“Senator Shaaba Lafiagi didn’t get there on zoning arrangement; he worked for it. Same thing with Governor AbdulRahman AbdulRazaq. I empathize with people from Kwara North but anybody vying for governorship should engage stakeholders for dialogue. Politics is about give and take, what are you planning to give my people and other issues of interest must be discussed”.
On Food Palliative, the Lawmaker said the legislature appropriated money for it in 2023 supplementary budget that would run till March 2024 under supervision of Ministry of Agriculture and Food Security with N200million and N100million for senatorial district and Federal Constituency respectively. He said everybody constituency and senatorial district at the right time, hinting that the processing is ongoing
