The Independent Corrupt Practices and Other Related Offences Commission (ICPC) has reaffirmed its commitment to prosecuting public officers involved in the vandalization of power infrastructure across Nigeria.

ICPC Chairman, Dr. Musa Adamu Aliyu, SAN, disclosed this on March 15, 2025, during a courtesy visit by the management of the Niger Delta Power Holding Company (NDPHC) to the commission’s headquarters in Abuja.

He assured the delegation of ICPC’s full support in combating corruption within government agencies and stressed the importance of accountability in ensuring sustainable power supply.

Dr. Aliyu emphasized the critical role of the power sector in national development, stating, “No nation can develop without sustainable power supply. Power is essential for an economy to thrive.”

He warned against the destruction of power infrastructure and called for stronger measures to protect national assets.

“Power infrastructure belongs to all of us, and we must ensure criminals do not destroy these assets,” he added.

The ICPC chairman also urged the National Assembly to pass the long-pending Whistleblower Bill, stating that it would encourage Nigerians to provide crucial information needed to prosecute those involved in vandalization.

“The passage of the Whistleblower Bill will help expose perpetrators of power infrastructure vandalism and enhance accountability,” he said.

Commending the NDPHC for its commitment to transparency, he proposed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) between both agencies to institutionalize anti-corruption efforts and ensure continuity across administrations.

NDPHC Managing Director, Engr. Jennifer Adighije, reiterated the agency’s commitment to strengthening anti-corruption measures in the power sector.

She emphasized the importance of transparency and accountability in achieving efficiency.

“We are committed to fostering this relationship to strengthen anti-corruption practices in the power sector,” she stated.

The visit concluded with the ICPC Chairman presenting Information, Education, and Communication (IEC) materials to the NDPHC delegation, followed by a group photograph to mark the occasion.
