Kano Govt Distributes Delivery Kits To 10,000 Pregnant Women

Kano State Government on Monday distributed delivery kits worth N145 million to more than 10,000 pregnant women in the state, Gov. Abdullahi Ganduje said.

The governor said while distributing the kits at Murtala Muhammad Specialist Hospital in Kano metropolis that the gesture was to assist the women.

He said: “today, we are witnessing another milestone as we distribute free delivery kits to pregnant women in Kano. The exercise is aimed at reducing hardships and saving the lives of pregnant women during delivery in the state, especially in rural areas…The tremendous increase in pregnant women attending pre- and post-natal clinics across the state.This is further encouraged by the free drugs programme introduced by the state government for pregnant women.”

Ganduje said the state government spent over N145 million in the purchase of the kits which included diapers, surgical gloves, sanitary pads, baby soap and oil.

He added that the state government had trained 1,936 traditional birth att endants in the state,explaining that the training had enriched the skills of the attendants on safe delivery of babies.

 

The state’s Commissioner for Health, Dr Kabir Getso, had commended the state government for the strides in the health sector.
