Kano University To Expel Students Over Destruction of School Properties

Various degrees of punishment such as suspension, rustication or outright expulsion from University await the erring Students of the Kano State University of Science and Technology (KUST) as management of the institution through its Vice Chancellor Prof Shehu Alhaji, insisted that the students who involved in the recent showdown at the University must not go unpunished.

The Students had recently embarked on violent protest following the death of their colleague who drown at a nearby river to the institution, the situation which led to the destruction of properties and the eventual management’s decision to dissolve the Student Union Government SUG of the Institution.


The Vice Chancellor made the position known on Tuesday when he hosted a coalition of Civil Society Organizations and Trade and Labour Unions led by members of the the Mallam Aminu Kano International Foundation (MAKIF) who were on an intervention visit to the university for peaceful resolution of the face-off between the management and the students which has lasted for almost two weeks.


Prof Shehu Alhaji stated that come Friday 6th of July 2018, different erring Students liable to various categories of punishment would be made public upon the conclusion of activities of the evaluation committee set up by the university management to investigate the matter.

Our correspondent reports that the VC also reiterated that the 13,000 naira fine imposed on the students for destruction of school property and the dissolution of the Student Union Government are irreversible.


On his part, leader of the dispute resolution team, Mallam Ibrahim Waiya, urged the Vice Chancellor to minimise the punishment and ensure that only errant students are affected.
