KILLINGS: Gbenga Hashim Calls for Change of Strategy by Government

A frontline politician and a former Presidential candidate, Dr. Gbenga Olawepo-Hashim has condemned the recently mindless killings, calling for a change of strategy to curb the ugly trend to save the lives of Nigerians across the country.

In the past two weeks, Over 60 innocent lives cut short in Plateau state, 8 farmers killed in Ondo state, over 25 in Benue state, over 24 in Ebonyi and Enugu states.

In a release by his media department on Wednesday in Abuja, Dr. Hashim expressed condolence to the family of the victims who have lost lives and property.

Dr. Hashim explained that he had observed that the Federal Government is not in total control, and yet reluctant to share serious security information with States and Local Government.

According to him, “the lack of understanding and cooperation with neighbouring countries would continue to make the inflow of bandits and arms easy.

” Bandits and terrorists enjoy easy mobility as they easily shift operations from areas of increased activities of federal government security forces to areas of low interest.”

This he said, “can be seen in the oscillation from the North East to the North West and now to the North Central and the South West.

“The lives of the people of Nigeria also matter. We must stand together in the fight for peace and justice, ensuring that no one has to live in fear on their own land”, he said.

Meanwhile, the National Security Adviser, Mallam Nuhu Ribadu remarked that the last one year and ten months, violent deaths have reduced probably by over 90%.

Ribadu also added that nearly 2,000 terrorists have been prosecuted under the current administration.

Despite these claims, recent killings in Plateau and Benue states — including a wake-keep massacre in Ruwi and a deadly raid in Otobi, home of ex-Senate President David Mark — have kept tensions high.

Protests have also erupted in states like Ondo and Enugu, with citizens demanding urgent government action on the worsening security crisis.

Dr. Hashim counselled that “every Nigerian life, indeed every life is sacred. Selective outrage can never be justified. The continuous bloodletting in Benue and Plateau States must be condemned and indeed must be stopped.”
