By Abdulganiy Nasir

The Young Progressives Party (YPP) governorship candidate in Kwara State, Alhaji Yakub Gobir on Wednesday launched his campaign for 2023 general elections.

Gobir started his campaign with Interactive Session with the media in Ilorin to discuss YPP agenda for Kwara, if elected.

The Madawaki of Ilorin and Waziri Hausa bemoaned the APC led administration in the state for incurring huge debts without tangible and impactful projects to show for it.

His words: “My concern is that the current administration is borrowing to execute white elephant projects with less impact to majority of Kwarans who are living below poverty line. Of what impact is the Virtual Art Centre to people that are living in poverty? What is the impact of Tanke bridge when there are not good roads in Kaiama, Baruten, Moro and Kwara South Senatorial district where they are producing food.

“They cannot access market to sell their farm produces due to bad roads. I don’t have anything against taking loans but it should not be for consumption. Borrowing should be for value creation, investment and wealth creation. By doing this we will be able to repay the loan conveniently and open the state for massive development.”

Gobir promised to attract best brains to work in his cabinet based on competence and capacity to deliver and not quota or sentiments to make headlines.
