Kwara Govt, Suspended LG Chairmen Take ‘War’ To Channels TV+Video

The Kwara State Government and suspended 16 local government Chairmen on Friday slugged it out on Channels Television, Lagos.
The Chief Press Secretary to Kwara state governor, Rafiu Ajakaye represented the state government while suspended Chairman of Ekiti council, Comrade Yinka Dallas Ayeni stood in for his colleagues.
Recall that Kwara state governor, Abdulrahman Abdulrazaq on Wednesday suspended all the 16 council chairmen, their deputies and the legislative arm following the recommendations of State House of Assembly.
FactualTimes gathered that Kwara State House of Assembly recommended the suspension of the council Chairmen after deliberating on petition written Mr Seidu from Ilorin West alleging them of financial misappropriation.
In his contributions during 30 minutes appearance on Channels TV flagship programme: Sunrise Daily, Rafiu Ajakaye said Governor Abdulrahman Abdulrazaq suspended the council leadership to allow thorough investigation into allegations against the 16 Kwara local government Chairmen.
Ajakaye noted that Section 29 of the Kwara State Local Government Law Cap. K33, 2006 empowers the governor to suspend the chief executive of the local council for six months.
Adding that, the Constitution, on the other hand, empowers the House of Assembly to investigate the local councils for alleged infraction and corruption.
The Chief Press Secretary stated that Governor Abdulrazaq didn’t disobey the any court judgement. He said the move would promote accountability and transparency in grassroots administration.
He disclosed that the Director of Personnel Management are now in-charge of local government administration in Kwara state.
The Chairman Ekiti local government, Comrade Yinka Dallas Ayeni said the state governor is starting on a bad note with their suspension.
”Someone took a petition about miss-appropriation of funds to the state Assembly on Thursday and the house pronounced our suspension on the same day however, it’s not the LG executives that are in charge of funds so why suspend us?” Comrade Dallas
Dallas expressed optimism that the suspended Chairmen who are members of PDP would get justice in court.
He presented photocopy of June 13, 2019/ Kwara State High Court judgement stopping the State governor and House of Assembly from suspending them before expiration of their three years tenure in November 2020.
