Kwara Must Change Congratulate Winners of LG election

A leading Pro-Democracy group, Kwara Must Change has commended the people of the state for the peaceful conduct displayed during the recently concluded local government elections.

The group said that the conduct of all concerned stakeholders shows that the people of Kwara State are committed to democracy and want to see positive change, which can only be guaranteed in a peaceful environment.

In a statement by the Convener of Kwara Must Change, Abdulrazaq Hamzat, the group said that the peaceful conduct of the local government election is a step in the right direction and it reaffirmed the people’s commitment to democratic stability, growth and development.

According to Hamzat, the local government election is not perfect, as some lapses were identified, such as inadequate ballot papers in some polling units and late arrival of election materials in some others.

The election also recorded some positives, amongst which includes least monetization.

“The 2024 LG election based on our observation, is the least monetized election in recent times, which is an indication that money in politics is gradually diminishing in Kwara State”

“However, while the Kwara State Independent Electoral Commission (Kwasiec) was able to address the late arrival of election materials in certain polling units by extending the voting hours, it couldn’t properly address inadequate voting materials in some polling units, leading to perceived sense of disenfranchisement” Hamzat said.

Hamzat maintained that, the few identified lapses doesn’t make the election less seminal, neither does it diminish the overall success of the election, but encouraged the electoral empire to improve on their processes in subsequent elections.

“We must continue to improve our democracy and its processes to achieve the ultimate aim of good governance” Hamzat said.

Kwara Must Change therefore congratulate winners of the elections and urge them to deliver on their campaign promises.
