Mohbad: VDM Awakens The Sleeping Dog
By Anuoluwapo Lebi
One year after Nigerian rapper, singer, and songwriter from Lagos, Ilerioluwa Oladimeji Aloba, known professionally as MohBad died. Multiple controversies surrounded the death of the Superstar, including allegation that Mohbad’s former boss, Azeez Adeshina Fashola, known professionally as Naira Marley played a role in the death of Mohbad.
Naira Marley and Sam Larry were around October 3, 2023 apprehended by the police on alleged connections with the death of Mohbad. After thorough investigation, the Lagos State Police Command on Friday, November 17, 2023, released controversial singer, Azeez Fashola, aka Naira Marley; and his associate, Balogun Samson, popularly known as Sammy Larry, after the duo met their bail conditions.
Subsequently, the Lagos State Police confirmed that there was a physical altercation between Mohbad and his childhood friend, PrimeBoy, in Ikorodu, which eventually led to Mohbad’s death due to injuries he suffered during the fight. Later on, PrimeBoy was called for questioning by the police.
Also, a punch report noted that Abiola Ahmed, one of the closest friends Mohbad had in the music industry revealed that Mohbad was suicidal. Shmurda said, “I do not want to say this but I will. I and Mohbad were in an apartment when he suddenly said he felt like jumping from the floor we were on, downstairs all because of the issues he was having with his label.”
Interestingly, Mohbad’s baby mama, Wunmi was also fingered as a suspect in the case of the death of her late Baby Daddy, Mohbad, which led to netizens demanding that Wunmi do a DNA test for supposed child of Mohbad, Liam which they had together before his passing.
In the history of Nigeria, no death of a celebrity has triggered such a public outrage and sympathy as that of Mohbad. The emotion was too deafening on social media that it drew international solidarities.
Numerous Nigerians flooded streets to demand ‘justice for Mohbad’, social media campaigns to seek justice for ‘Imole’ cut across ethnic, gender or religion. Despite the natural divergence of Nigeria, her people united to fight for Mohbad.
Glaringly, the death of Mohbad almost tore the Nigeria Afro Beat Music industry apart, as some were with alleged murderer of Mohbad, who was also a big wig in the industry, many others did not care to hide their anger and animosity against the ‘falling Naira”.
In the long run, Iyabo Ojo, a prominent Nigerian film actress, director, and producer, who is also referred for her activism, especially in protecting rights of women and children got involved in seeking justice for mohbad.
However, after Naira Marley and Sam Larry were released, and washed off allegations, connected with Mohbad’s death, and after his body was exhumed and taken for autopsy, the fight for Mohbad’s justice also went resting in peace.
The report of the autopsy conducted at the Lagos State University Teaching Hospital revealed that samples of Mohbad’s gastric content, blood, bone marrow, liver, kidney, and lungs were received for a complete toxicology examination.
The report read, “It is noteworthy that the body neither had an autopsy nor embalmed before interment on the second day. Following the Order for Exhumation, the body was exhumed on 21/09/2023 (eight days after the burial).
“Autopsy revealed moderate to marked decomposition of organs. Aside from the superficial injury on the right forearm, no significant gross finding could be attributed to death.
“Against this background, samples were taken for toxicology. This was to determine if there was any anaphylactic reaction, substance abuse, overdose or common household poisoning. Toxicology revealed positive findings of Diphenhydramine, an anti-histamine. However, this concentration was not in a fatal or lethal range. The other analytics were unremarkable.
“Unfortunately, this was prevented or made impossible by the burial of the deceased on the second day. In the light of the preceding, the cause of death could not be ascertained. However, the possibility of a fatal anaphylactic shock (drug reaction) could be considered given the absence of any significant post-mortem and toxicology findings.”
It is obviously not irregular for Nigerians to leave the fight to get jutice for Mohbad, in a country filled with countless dramas: from new movies, hardship in the country, #EndBadGovernance protest and other ‘balablues’, but it seem that a Nigerian activist, critic and social media influencer, Martins Vincent Otse, popularly known as VeryDarkMan has awoken the sleeping dog, by pointing fingers to Iyabo Ojo, another staunch seeker of justice for Mohbad, alleging her of involvement in Mohbad’s death.
It is important to recall that it was the issue of Mohbad’s death that initially turned Iyabo Ojo and VDM to enemies- that will be a write for another day.
In a video released by VDM recently, he raised serious concerns about Karimot, the sister of Wunmi, who recently shared new details surrounding the death of the late singer Ilerioluwa Oladimeji Aloba, known to many as Mohbad. In a TikTok Live session on Monday, she made some startling accusations that have left social media buzzing. According to Karimot, she believes that Wunmi, singer’s wife, played a role in the singer’s untimely death.
She recounted that the couple had a fierce argument, which resulted in damage to a railing in their home. This altercation, Karimot claims, led Wunmi to call a nurse, a decision she believes ultimately caused Mohbad’s death. In a shocking turn, Karimot publicly renounced her sister, Wunmi, and suggested that she possesses incriminating information about her.
She accused Wunmi of taking Mohbad’s phone from his mother and refusing to return it, along with other devices that were seized for evidence.
Karimat was one of the biggest defenders of Wunmi, how things have suddenly gone south between them was worthy of questioning.
VDM further established that Wunmi and Iyabo Ojo’s Instagram account were logged in on the same phone, with exact IP address and location, insinuating that Iyabo Ojo has been handling Late Mohbad’s Widow’s instagram handle.
VDM also dug into old video where Iyabo Ojo stated that ‘’Mohbad died inside the house”, rendering VDM to ask how she knew so much about Mohbad’s death.
The Nigerian activist, VDM has always argued that Wunmi is a suspect in the death of her husband, a claim he reiterated during his recent video, while stressing that Wunmi has refused to not get DNA for her Son, but was quick to cart away properties of the late singer, her husband.
VDM, while accessing the many conspiracies that surrounded the death of Mohbad, from a nurse’s injection; mental health issues Mohbad battled due to alleged assault by Naira Marley; physical fight between Mohbad and his childhood friend, PrimeBoy; to the two young boys who first paraded supposed lifeless body of Mohbad, which VDM believes was a breathing Mohbad, online, noted that Wunmi should be thoroughly investigated.
Nevertheless, VDM has promised to assist police with evidences he has, and has told those he mentioned to charge him for defamation, if they felt defamed.
It is worthy of note, that Mohbad’s mother, Abosede who has been a wall of defence to Wunmi, since the death of Wunmi’s late husband, her son, Mohbad, has accused Wunmi of betrayal.
During the heated TikTok live program, Mohbad’s mum explained how Wunmi lied against her, claiming that she was trying to inherit her son’s things. She also noted how she stood by the widow in sincerity even when her own family abandoned her for it.
