N11bn Expenses: Brain Builders Challenge Kwara Govt In Court Over Denial of FOI Request

A Civil Society Organization, Brain Builders Youth Development Initiative (BBYDI) has challenged denial of Freedom of Information (FOI) request on N11billion health and Governor’s office expenses.

BBYDI had earlier in the year requested for details of over N11billion Kwara State Government expended on  in fourth quarter of 2019.

The organization is requesting for the following details:

1. Breakdown (line by line) of how 8.889BN was spent on the Health Sector during the last quarter of the year.

2. Breakdown of how Governor’s office gulped 2.451BN.

3. Breakdown of Ministry of Works’ 1.195Bn.

Brain Builders Youth Development Initiative based its FOI request on fourth quarter financial report published by the state government.

The organization therefore filed case at State High Court to challenge denial of their request inline with 2011 FOI Act.

The court has fixed  Monday August 10, 2020 for hearing of the case.

Justice Oyinloye is expected to preside over the hearing of case KWS/74m/20 between Incorporated Trustees Of Brain Builders Vs. The Hon. Attorney General Of Kwara State & one other.
