The senate president, Dr. Bukola Saraki has stated that the new voting pattern adopted by Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) for 2019 general elections will give room for manipulation.
Saraki disclosed this on Wednesday while featuring on a live television progromme- Kakaki on AIT, Abuja.
His words: ”When you do continuous accreditation and voting, you give room for manipulation”
The Senate President however noted that INEC deserves the benefit of the doubt, but advised them to show Nigerians that they want to do things the right way.
“We want an election that will be accepted by all, the winners and the losers. To do this, INEC must show and band backwards to address all issues of concern. INEC must take charge and by the electoral act, INEC is in charge of security and they must look at this.” He explained.
Saraki insisted that the electoral body must address observations raised by stakeholders.
According to him: “Some of the observations that we have made to ensure that people will not be moving around must be addressed by INEC.”
“Another issue is the transmission of results. Those results that they are transmitting to INEC HQ must be transmitted to everyone at the same time.”
“The live feeds from the collation center must be a place where party officials and election observers must be able to access. We must ensure that it is transparent.”
On Collation of results, he tasked ONEC to make the process open and transparent, “If the collation centers are open and transparent, INEC cannot be pressured by the government… like you saw in Osun State.”
