OAU, ABU, UI SUG Presidents Reject Tinubu’s Rice Palliative

The Students Union Presidents of Obafemi Awolowo University, Ile-Ife Ahmadu Bello University, Zaria and University of Ibadan have rejected rice palliative to union leaders by President Bola Tinubu.

Recall that President Tinubu on January 14 approved distribution of rice palliative to SUG Presidents across the 36 states and FCT.

However, Student leaders from the three institutions rejected the palliative and urge Tinubu-led administration to use resources to improve education sector.

The SUG President of Obafemi Awolowo University, Comrade Damilola Isaac said the handouts will not address systemic challenges facing education sector in the country.

His words: “It is imperative that efforts be directed towards improving the quality of education, reducing tuition burdens, upgrading infrastructure, and enhancing opportunities for students across the country, rather than ‘handouts that do not address the systemic challenges facing the Nigerian education sector”

His counterpart from University of Ibadan, Aweda Damilola said he will not accept the rice palliative.

Aweda lamented that University College Hospital has been in perpetual darkness for 83 days.

He improved Tinubu to improve educational sector and pay attention to welfare of students nationalwide.

On his part, the President Students’ Representative Council, Ahmadu Bello University, Ibrahim Nazeer said: “I will not accept my share unless it is accompanied by substantial allocation for my fellow students.
