Ogun Governor Appoints Segun Odegbami as Grand Sports Ambassador
Ogun State Governor, Dapo Abiodun, on Tuesday appointed former Green Eagles captain, Segun Odegbami, as the state’s Grand Sports Ambassador.
The appointment was announced at the Segun Osoba Press Centre in Abeokuta during a media briefing with sports editors.
Governor Abiodun presented Odegbami with a certificate of appointment as part of preparations for the 22nd National Sports Festival, which the state is set to host.
According to the governor, Odegbami will play a key role in helping the state harness the economic potential of sports beyond the festival.
He added that the former football star had submitted a development template modeled after the Amsterdam Arena, which the state intends to replicate at the MKO Abiola Stadium.
“The National Sports Festival will come and go, but we’re already thinking of leveraging the gains from hosting it,” Abiodun said.
“That’s where Odegbami will come in to help us maximise the sports economy.”
Odegbami, one of Nigeria’s football legends, captained the national team during the 1980 Africa Cup of Nations victory.
