Olohungbebe Emerges Chairman of Education Commissioners in Nigeria

The Chairman, Committee of State Commissioners of Education (COSCEN), Dr Lawal O. Olohungbebe, on Monday formally took over the newly commissioned national secretariat of the body in Abuja.

The handover event, held at the UBEC Digital Resource Centre in Jahi, Abuja, was attended by the Minister of Education, Dr Tunji Alausa; Minister of State for Education, Prof Suwaiba Said Ahmad; Executive Secretary of the Universal Basic Education Commission, Dr Aisha Garba; and commissioners of education from across the country.

Speaking shortly after taking charge, Olohungbebe praised the Governor of Kwara State, Abdulrahman Abdulrazaq, for what he described as the governor’s consistent support for the education sector. He also commended state commissioners for their “dedication and collective resolve” to strengthen learning outcomes nationwide, saying the new secretariat represents unity and shared purpose among the states.

According to him, the facility is expected to serve as a national hub for policy dialogue, inter-state cooperation and exchange of best practices, with the ultimate aim of promoting uniform standards and deeper reforms across the education sector.

Olohungbebe also appreciated the ministers and UBEC leadership for their roles in actualising the project. He said the new COSCEN secretariat would boost coordination, innovation and collaboration between federal and state actors in the country’s education system.
