Oloriewe Pays Tribute To Prince Fagbemi at 70

By Raheem Adedoyin

I join the Government and Good people of Kwara State and the teeming members of the ruling All Progressives Congress ( APC) to celebrate a royal czar and consummate political leader, Prince Sunday Babatunde as he turns 70.

I had the good fortune of knowing Prince Fagbemi intimately when we worked together at the leadership level of the then ruling party, the People’s Democratic Party ( PDP) . I was then a national officer ( deputy national publicity secretary) in Abuja and member of NEC while Prince was the all- powerful Kwara State Secretary of PDP. We found so much comfort in working together .

The time we served together ( 2001-2003) was a turbulent political period in Kwara, a stormy period that rocked the ruling PDP as well as the opposition All Peoples Party ( APP) .

We had some disagreements as is expected in party politics but nothing in our relationship suffered irredemably. Yes, for over 10years, we parted ways politically but maintained solid non- political relationship.

Prince and I joined forces together again politically in 2018 when he and other PDP Leaders exited en masse from their party to join APC. The elephant in our room had moved to their own room which they wisely exited .

Before he was elected State Chairman of APC, Prince and I had worked on some assignments for Governor AbdulRahman AbdulRazaq including when we attended the National Convention of the Kwara State Association of Nigeria ( KSANG) with the Governor in Atlanta, Georgia, USA in 2019.
Our political relationship has blosomed since he became APC Chairman .

Despite the challenges facing the party, it is to the credit of Prince Fagbemi that Kwara APC has remained unbreakable and is on an electoral winning streak.

Congratulations, our indefatigable Chair.
