Ondo Governor, Aiyetidawa Ignores Court Order, Appoints TIC for 33 LCDAs
Ondo State Governor, Lucky Aiyetidawa has ignored court order by appointing Transition Committees for 33 Local Government Development Areas in the state.
Aiyetidawa made the announcement in a statement issued by his Chief Press Secretary, Ebenezer Adeniyan on Wednesday.
According to Adeniyan, following the postponement of local government election by the Ondo State Independent Electoral Commission (ODIEC), the Governor of Ondo State, Hon. Lucky Orimisan Aiyedatiwa, has constituted Transition Committees for the 18 local government areas and 33 Local Council Development Areas (LCDAs) in the State.
He said: “The transition committees are to oversee the affairs of the LGs and LCDAs in the State until the local government election is held by the electoral body.
“Meanwhile, the State government is currently examining the concerns raised by some communities over the delineations carried out during the creation of the LCDAs with a view to making the necessary amendments.”
Recall that Ondo State High Court in June nullified the 33 Local Government Development Areas created by the late Governor Rotimi Akeredolu in September 2023.
The court described the LCDAs as illegal and unlawful creations.
Late Governor Akeredolu signed the law creating the 33 LCDAs to expand the council areas in Ondo State from 18 to 51.
