Oyo Govt ‘ll continue to partner NUT, ANCOPS- Education Commissioner
Oyo State government on Tuesday reiterated its readiness to continue to partner with the Nigeria Union of Teachers, Oyo State wing, and All Nigeria Confederation of Principals of Secondary Schools in promoting a qualitative educational system in all primary and Secondary Schools in the State.
The commissioner for Education, Science and Technology, Prof. Salihu Abdulwaheed disclosed this while hosting the executive members of the Nigeria Union of Teachers, Oyo State wing led by Comrade Raji Oladimeji and the state President of ANCOPS, Pastor Ojetunde Abraham, in his Office at the Secretariat, Ibadan.
The Commissioner affirmed that providing quality education for students of the state remains top in the government’s agenda.
He commended the NUT for organizing training for the Teachers in the state, admonishing them to ensure that participants are certificated.
He said: “I am so glad about what NUT is doing even though in Nigeria, societal respect is not there. In some countries, you cannot be a teacher until you are part of the top five percent, the reward system in terms of the take home salary is higher than that of the President of the country, that is not the way we are being treated in the country. Nevertheless, it is never a problem, God has started rewarding us as teachers on the surface of earth today.
“I appreciated Comrade Raji and Ojetunde
led administrations of Nigeria Union of Teachers and All Nigeria Confederation of Principals of Secondary Schools,in the state by giving the maximum cooperation to the government of the day, I sincerely want to appreciate NUT and ANCOPS, for the role played during our just concluded NECO, Common Entrance and BECE Examinations.
“They contributed to the hitch free examination during the last examination.
I was happy to hear that you have been partnering with the government and still willing to partner with the government, the best profession in the world is teaching. Teaching is a noble profession.
“I am glad to hear that you are organizing training programs for our teachers, whatever the training you are giving to them, make sure there is certification for it.
I thank you for coming to felicitate me on my appointment as Commissioner for Education, Science, Technology.
“Let us partner together and see how we can move the industry together, in the overall interest of humanity.”
Earlier, in their separate remarks, the Chairman, Nigeria Union of Teachers, Oyo state wing, Comrade Raji Oladimeji, The President, All Nigeria Confederation of Principals of Secondary Schools,Pastor Ojetunde Abraham , said the present administration in Oyo State has returned the old glory of yesteryears in education by instituting genuine people’s policy like free and qualitative education policy that encompasses better teaching conditions for teachers and students, adding
that has contributed to good performance of students in external examinations.
They hinted that the giant strides in educational development of the governor Makinde led administration have started yielding favourable results that will have a positive impact on the lives of our students.
They expressed the readiness of the Union to support the commissioner in running the affairs of the education industry in the State.
The meeting was attended by the Permanent Secretary, Ministry of Education, Science and Technology, Mr Olusanjo Adeniyi and other executive members of the Union.
