Oyo LG Polls: OYSIEC Begins Distribution of Sensitive Materials
Oyo state Independent Electoral Commission (OYSIEC) has commenced distribution of sensitive materials ahead of Saturday’s local government elections.
The Chairman OYSIEC, Aare Isiaka Olagunju, SAN disclosed this while addressing newsmen at the Commission Headquarters, Ibadan on Thursday.
Olagunju hinted that Over 15,000 security personnel have been mobilized in order to conduct credible, peaceful free and fair election.
He reiterated the determination of the commission to conduct a credible and acceptable poll without intimidation or bias.
OYSIEC maintained that forty thousand adhoc staff have been trained for the conduct of the election across the six thousand three hundred and ninety three polling units across the thirty Three council areas in the state.
Aare Olagunju who disclosed that the commission had started the distribution of non-sensitive materials since Monday 22nd of April noted that the various political parties interested in the election are showing necessary cooperation.
Aare Olagunju further hinted that there will be restriction of human and vehicular movements from 8am to 3pm period of the election.
The OYSIEC boss who reiterated that the commission will not be using the Biometric Voters Accreditation System BVAS in the conduct of the election assured that necessary measures to ensure people’s vote count have been put in place.
He therefore solicited the cooperation and support of the electorate noting that violence or threat of violence are inimical to the success of the polls.
