Ramadan/Lent: Senator Ashiru Greets Muslim ummah, Christian faithful
As Muslim umah commences Ramadan the compulsory fasting period, the Deputy Senate Leader and Lawmaker representing Kwara South senatorial district, Architect Oyelola Yisa Ashiru has called on all Muslims to use this period of fasting and prayers to seek the face of Allah on the state of the nation.
Ashiru equally enjoined the christian faithful to use the period of Lent to deepen faith and seek forgiveness, pray for our leaders, country and strive for more just and compassionate society with the commencement of 40 days fasting period for Christians across the world
Senator Ashiru in a message to all Muslims in Kwara south senatorial district and Nigeria in general,said fasting and prayers is a period of personal reconnection with Allah in all aspects of life.
” I call on the Muslim ummah to show love and understanding towards all religious adherents as they undertake this important article of Islamic faith.
” Equally, I urge every Muslim ummah to see the month of Ramadan as a period of piety, love, rethink and oneness of the almighty Allah.
He called on them to pray for the nation in all areas,while calling for peaceful coexistence amongst all.
In a similar message on the commencement of Lent, Senator Ashiru described Ash Wednesday as a significant day which symbolises the commencement of 40 days fasting period for Christians across the world.
” Today 18th Wednesday, February 2026, we mark the beginning of Lent, a time of repentance, denial from earthly things and renewal, let’s use this period to deepen our faith, seek forgiveness, pray for our leaders, country and strive for a more just and compassionate
” I also enjoin Christians to embody the life of Jesus Christ by fostering love, brotherliness and helping those in needs in our communities in whatever way possible as well as promote peaceful living. Let us not forget to ask for divine intervention for our state, especially at a time like this when certain elements are bent on disturbing its peace for selfish reasons.”
“May God’s grace guide us through this season of reflection and preparation,” Ashiru stated.
