….NAMACOS Independent of the Department, OSPOLY Mass Comm Department Clarifies
The Management of Mass Communication Department, Osun State Polytechnic Iree has said the National Association of Mass Communication Students (NAMACOS) is an independent students association in the Department that is administered by its executive elected by members of the association.
The Head of Department (HOD), Dr Idowu Akinrosoye in reaction to a media report on the Departmental annual dues announced by the association’s executive in which the “HOD had asserted control over the association”, especially on the alleged fees.
Dr. Akinrosoye maintained that the association is not controlled by Management of the Department, but being administered independently by its executive members duly elected by the students body.
The HOD therefore dissociated himself from the alleged increment in the association’s fee, noting that NAMACOS leaders run their affairs without any interference from the Head of Department and other members of staff.
He declared that the story in circulation is misleading, the department has not increased practical or other legitimate charges approved by the Polytechnic Management as of today.
Akinrosoye enjoined the students to use appropriate channels to air their grievances. According to him, They can engage their executive to iron out the issues. They elected them and students have the right to dialogue with their executive.
“We hereby advise the executive to note that NAMACOS fee is different from departmental fee. We urge our students as journalists in training to adhere to journalistic ethics and avoid sensationalization of news reports,” the HOD advised
