*FPE: Suspension of academic activities ill-timed – FPE PRESS*
The National union of Campus Journalists (NUCJ, Ede Poly Chapter) usually address as FPE PRESS CLUB call on His Excellency, President Muhammadu Buhari and the Honourable Minister for Education, Adamu Adamu to wade in and constitute a special visitation panel to investigate the crisis and a score-fight between Management and the Academic staff of our institution which has resulted to the truncation and elongation of our school calendar, we condemned in totality the suspension of academic activities in our citadel.
The year has been characterized with so many challenges; from the COVID-19 pandemic to the EndSARS unrest which halted our academic progress; let it be stated and very quickly too that with the suspension of academic activities despite the Federal government directive to reopen our school, the management is jeopardizing students’ future with its incessant fracas with Academic staff and the system should be at alert to take responsibility for mass failure and half-baked graduates into the Nigerian labour market if the needful is not done urgently.
Hence, we strongly fault and describe as ‘ill-time’ the closure of our school, having just experienced lockdown imposed due to the COVID-19 pandemic and closure of schools due to the EndSARS crisis; it’s a impetuous disregard to reality and the challenges we faced as Students.
We hereby plead with His Excellency President Buhari and Honourable Minister of Education to intervene, investigate circumstances surrounding the closure of our school and make the poor students at Ede smile again.
