Retrace Your Step on Rejection of Commissioner-Nominees, CSO Urges Obasa

A civil society organization, Vanguard Liberation Human Rights Activists has urged Lagos State House of Assembly to retrace their step over rejection of 17 Commissioner-Nominees.

The Convener, Vanguard Liberation Human Rights Activists, Comrade Aghedo Kehinde Stephen made this call in a statement made available to newsmen on Saturday.

According to the organization, The Speaker Lagos State House of Assembly, Hon Mudashiru Obasa seems to be working against #agreaterLagos agenda of Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu with the rejection of 17 Commissioner-Nominees.

The statement read:

“Recall that Lagos State House of Assembly during the week rejected 17 out 39 Commissioner-nominees forwarded the House for confirmation inline with provisions of Nigeria’s constitution. The rejected nominees include former Commissioner for Health, Prof Akin Abayomi and his counter in Information Minister, Gbenga Omotosho.

“The 17 nominees were rejected for frivolous excuses and Obasa’s deliberate power play as well as misuse of gavel during the voice vote for confirmation of Commissioner-Nominees by Lagos Assembly.

“Obasa has indeed declared war against President Bola Tinubu, Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu and Lagosians by plotting to slow down the pace of development in centre of excellence by rejected Nominees with track record of excellent service delivery since 2019.

“Obasa-led Assembly is trying to bring governance to standstill for personal political gains. Their act is not in the interest of the All Progressives Congress.

“For records, President Bola Tinubu during 2023 general elections campaign hailed Sanwo-Olu for implementing Lagos Master-plan and also fast tracking development of the mega city. It’s a known fact that the Governor made significant progress by working with Eggheads and professionals to deliver dividends of democracy and good governance.

“We urge the assembly to immediately retrace their step or face the wrath of civil rights movement. Legislative rascality cannot stop progress of a greater Lagos.”
