Senator Oyelola Ashiru on Thursday presented the cash to 110 beneficiaries drawn from 11 wards in Isin local government at Open field Okeonigbin.
The Senator said the Business Capital Support Scheme will boost business existing petty traders and help others to start new ones, thereby making them self reliant as well as support their household.
He noted that the scheme was introduced to address some challenges facing the vulnerables within his constituency.
”Recall that we used our campaign period to carry NEEDS assessment across the seven local government areas in Kwara South. This is part of our efforts to alleviate poverty. Although, the N20,000 might be small but this scheme will save them from burden of accessing high interest rate from financial institutions. We have set up monitoring to ensure they use the cash support judiciously because I plan to give more resources to successful ones”. Senator Ashiru explained.
In his address, APC Stalwart from Isin Local Government, Chief Iyiola Oyedepo Akogun commended the senator for the initiative, noting that it will boost business activities in the area.
Chief Oyedepo therefore charged beneficiaries to use the money to boost their business in order to get more support.
”I encourage you to use the cash support judiciously. It a kind of healthy competition among beneficiaries because successful ones will get more resources from the Senator.” He added.
The event was attended by the Chief Imam of Okeonigbin, the Chief Imam of Iwo, the CAN chairman, the Local Government party bigwigs, amongst other party stakeholders.
