Signature Bonus: Kwara LGs Earmark N4billion for Payment of Gratuity Arrears

The Chairmen of 16 local government areas in Kwara State have decided to earmark four billion naira (N4billion) out N7.4billion ‘signature bonus’ to offset gratuity arrears from 2011.

Chairman of the Association of Local Governments of Nigeria (ALGON), Kwara State, Hon Abubakar Abdullahi Danladi disclosed this in a statement made available to newsmen on Wednesday.

According to him, Kwara State Local Government Chairmen have decided to commit the N7,430,264,266.68 signature bonus they recently received from the Federation Account to offset part of the gratuity arrears dating back to 2011 and execute some projects that will benefit the people at the grassroots.

Danladi said the council chairmen unanimously allocated N4billion of their ‘signature bonus’ to offset a part of the gratuity arrears with N250million from each local government.

He said the payment will spread across all the local government retirees with outstanding gratuities.

“This payment will cover the 2011 gratuity obligations and more. The disbursement will be done in a way that everyone will benefit. We also agreed that the total sum of N3.36bn will go into executing projects that each local government considers to be its priority.” ALGON Chairman explained.

Recall that N471million was disbursed to all local government areas from federation account as proceeds of mining activities.
