Uphold Journalistic Ethics, Experts Charge Media Practitioners in Kwara

Media Practitioners have charged journalists to always uphold journalistic ethics to promote democracy and good governance in Nigeria.

The Media Gurus led by Africa/Nigeria representative on International Press Institute (IPI) Board, Oloriewe Raheem Adedoyin and Mohammed Abdullahi gave the advise during Prudent Watch Media seminar to its first anniversary themed “The Role of Media in promoting Democracy and Good Governance in Nigeria”.

Oloriewe Raheem Adedoyin implored Online Media Practitioners to practice journalism with high level of professionalism irrespective of political affiliation.

Adedoyin, a former Commissioner for Information in Kwara State said someĀ  Practitioners are now using their platforms to push political agenda.

On his part, Mohammed Abdullahi who is the Publisher of Insider highlighted contributions of Journalists towards strengthen democratic rule in the country.

Later, the Special Assistant to Kwara Governor on Communications, Abdullateef Ibraheem, Managing Editor FactualTimes, Oyewale Oyelola, ASKOMP Chairman/Informant247 Publisher, Salihu Shola Taofeek and FreshInsight Editor, Ibrahim Sheriff during a panel session discussed some critical issues such as Press Freedom, Ethics and News Commercialization.

The program held on Friday December 9, 2022 at NUJ Hall also featured awards amidst all other programs for notable leaders in the state who were nominated and screened by categories.

Senator Ibrahim Yahaya Oloriegbe, who represents Kwara Central, received the distinction of the Federal Lawmaker of the Year.

Hon. AGF Salahuddeen, a deserving representative of the Omupo Constituency, Kwara State House of Assembly, received the title of State Lawmaker of the Year.

The Media-friendly personality of the year was awarded to Muktar Tolani Shagaya, an APC Candidate, Ilorin West, and Asa, Federal Constituency, Kwara State.

Most Supportive Kwara Commissioner was awarded to Kwara State Commissioner for Works and Transport Engr Rotimi Iliasu Suleiman.

Alh. Yakub Gobir, Waziri Kazan Hausa was awarded the Personality of the year. While the Commissioner of the year was awarded to Ibrahim Suleiman Senior Esq, Commissioner for Justice, Kwara State.

All awards were shared on stage and received by the awardees and their representative.
