What Has Senator Ashiru Done For Rural Communities in Kwara South?

Kwara South Senatorial district has the highest number of local government areas compared to other senatorial districts in Kwara State. The senatorial district has seven local government areas with many rural communities and villages. Some of these communities have dearth of infrastructural development due to poor representation, implementation of projects without impact, inability to understand Peoples’ need and scarcity of resources.

To function effectively, a senatorial district like Kwara South would need a Senator that understands the peculiarities and challenges facing each community in order to serve them better as their voice in the Senate.

Although, the core mandate of a Senator is legislation, and this could come in form of bills, motions and oversight functions, but a responsive Representative also needs to use his office to facilitate impactful projects/empowerment programmes for the benefit of the Constituents. Doing these would complement executive efforts in tackling challenges facing different communities.

It’s therefore exciting that the incumbent Senator representing Kwara South Senatorial district, Arch Oyelola Yisa Ashiru has been using his position to tackle challenges bedeviling various communities and villages, thereby bringing succour to the people across the seven local government areas.

Recall that Senator Ashiru during a Reception/Dinner organized by The Committee of Friends held at Avalon Hotel, Offa in June 2019, to celebrate his electoral victory pledged to bring meaningful development to the rural communities in order to ameliorate people’s suffering.

Senator Ashiru gave this commitment in presence of Traditional Rulers, Community Leaders and Party faithfuls that graced the event to usher in era of quality and equitable representation in Kwara South.

In his words: ”I cried in some villages during my polling unit to polling unit engagement, after seeing dearth of development. No good roads, potable water, healthcare facilities, electricity and other social amenities. Even in Ifelodun local government where former governor of state, Alhaji AbdulFatah Ahmed hails from.

”I want to reassure the good people of Kwara South senatorial district of my resolute to provide quality representation that will better their lots.”

Fortunately, Senator Ashiru has been matching his words with action by facilitating impactful projects and social amenities to rural communities across the seven local government areas within the district.

In his bid to improve water supply, the Senator installed Solar Panel to about 30 boreholes to ensure people have access to clean water and reduce the stress people encounter while trying to get water in remote areas. Some of the benefiting communities include Iji-Isin, Afelele, Ile-Olowa, Igbodun, Babanla, Yaru, Ganmo, Eji Omiaro, Babanloma, Osi, Share, Rore/Aranrin, Omido, Ajengbe, Odo-Owa and Erinle among others. The water projects are also serving neighboring villages and communities.

On health, Senator Ashiru constructed Maternity Health Centers in Epe-Opin (Ekiti LG), Kajola (Oke-ero), Ilale (Oke-ero) and Durosoto (Ifelodun). He also provided medical equipment and drugs for seven Primary Health Centres in Offa, Erinle, Araromi-Opin Cottage Hospital, Ekan, Arandun, Isanlu-Isin Isanlu-Isin and Oke-Ode to complement efforts of the Governor AbdulRahman AbdulRazaq led administration in improving Kwara State health sector. The People’s Senator due to his love for healthy living of the people carried medical outreach in Odo-Owa(Oke-ero), Omu-Aran(Irepodun), Osi (Ekiti LG), Offa, Amuyo and Share (Ifelodun) with over 1000 beneficiaries including Traditional Rulers, the aged and others. During each of the medical outreaches, the medical team treated people of different diseases and gives them drugs while remaining drugs are handed over to Primary Health Centres in the area.

Likewise, Senator Ashiru is also impacting rural communities by facilitating 500KVA transformers to communities for the people to access electricity to boost their economic and for basic usage. Idofian, Amoyo, Oro, Offa and Ora have benefited from rural electrification projects of the performing Senator in 2021/2022. Another transformer will be energized on January 5, 2023 in Ajase-ipo, Irepodun local government while Ayedun (Oke-ero), Ipee (Oyun) and Ganmo (Ifelodun) are getting 500KVA transformers as contractor visited the benefiting communities on Wednesday, January 4, 2023 for site handing over. He also installed Solar powered streetlights in Obbo-Ile, Omupo, Omugo and Offa.

Furthermore, the Kwara South Senator moved by his passion for education has constructed classrooms in Ejiu-Ile and Etan (Ekiti LG), Igbonna in Oyun local government, Oro-Ago in Ifelodun local government, and Gaa Jango and Kanmonu Alayin in Offa local government. The pupils in these communities now learn under conducive environment.

In addition to provision of social amenities, Senator Ashiru has done alot in the area of road rehabilitation/construction. There’s now asphalt roads at Ora-Ayoka-Okeki and Iso Oko Market, Omu-Aran in Irepodun LGA; Ile Film/Abogunungun/Popo, Imam Compound-Essa Road, Afolabi Hospital drive, Akinsagba/Ile Awudere, Afolabi Hospital Drive in Offa LGA, Balogun Idi Isin and Ita Erin in Offa. Work is also ongoing on Ikotun-Offa road in Oyun LGA and others.

Moreover, the Seed planted by Kwara South People in 2019 is enhancing rural beautification and providing necessary facilities in tourism sites such as Owu Water Fall and Ero’Mola Water Fall to attract tourists, thereby creating new business opportunities as people patronize locals while visiting the sites.

The Offa born Senator understands Kwara South People and he is implementing projects to address challenges facing them as well as impacting their lives positively. The Senator has provided quality, equitable and purposeful representation in the last 40 months. Ashiru would do more, when given the opportunity to continue come 2023.
