Women’s Day: Sanwo-Olu Vows Greater Support for Women’s Empowerment

Lagos State Governor, Babajide Sanwo-Olu, has pledged to strengthen policies that advance gender equality and inclusiveness, reaffirming his administration’s commitment to empowering women across all sectors.

Speaking at the 2025 International Women’s Day (IWD) celebration on Friday at the Mobolaji Johnson Arena, Sanwo-Olu assured women in Lagos that his government would ensure they are seen, heard, and given equal opportunities to thrive.

He emphasized that the state’s commitment aligns with its THEMES+ agenda, which prioritizes development through inclusivity.

He added that achieving gender equality is essential for Lagos State’s progress.

“This year’s theme, ‘Accelerate Action,’ challenges us to move beyond words and take decisive steps to remove barriers that hinder women,” Sanwo-Olu said.

He stated that Lagos State is actively implementing policies that empower women across all sectors, focusing on self-sufficiency, leadership, and economic participation.

The governor also urged men to support the push for gender equality, stating that sustainable change requires collective effort.

“This is not just a women’s fight. When men and women work together, we create a more inclusive and prosperous society,” he said.

Sanwo-Olu highlighted various initiatives by his administration aimed at fostering women’s development, assuring that his government remains committed to addressing gender disparities.

The event was attended by women leaders, entrepreneurs, and other stakeholders, who commended the state’s efforts in supporting women’s growth.

Discussions at the celebration focused on strategies to accelerate women’s inclusion in governance, business, and other key sectors.

As the event concluded, speakers called for continuous advocacy and implementation of policies that drive real change for women in Lagos State.
