Yaba LCDA Removes Legislative Leader, Solomon Gbinigie
The Yaba Local Council Development Area (LCDA) in Lagos State has removed its legislative leader, Mr. Solomon Gbinigie, following allegations of financial impropriety, abuse of office, corruption and arrogance.
The impeachment came after Gbinigie secured a state-sponsored foreign seminar slot for himself, despite a council resolution allocating it to another member.
According to a Source, Gbinigie’s actions, which included allegedly collecting bribes from contractors and signing legislative documents without the approval of the House, led to his removal.
Other Sources revealed that the seminar was intended for six principal council members, including the Council Chairman, Vice Chairman, Council Manager, Secretary, Council Treasurer, and the Legislative Leader.
Gbinigie is accused of collecting N500,000 from a contractor handling the council’s UK trip, sparking outrage among his colleagues.
Insiders told our correspondent that he had attended three foreign legislative seminars without allocating slots to other principal officers or councilors, causing tensions among councilors representing the nine wards in Yaba LCDA.
Despite Gbinigie’s claims that he used personal resources for the seminar, sources said he disregarded the council’s resolution. The impeachment was not seen as political victimization, despite claims from Gbinigie’s associates.
Hon. Kayode Olujobi has been elected as the new legislative leader. In a Facebook post, Olujobi emphasized the importance of forgiveness and rebuilding trust in the face of betrayal.
