Delivering his remarks at the event, the Minister said, “In the last 7 months or so that I have been in office, my emphasis has been majorly how to improve the skills of our youth. Yes, education is good, but only skill will develop our nation and improve the living condition of the youth.”

Olawande, who later participated in the launch of the Better Education for Africa’s Rise (BEAR) III, a partnership project funded by the Ministry of Education of the People’s Republic of Korea and the United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization (UNESCO), said Nigeria’s education must now be retooled to focus on delivering skills that are in line with the needs of the 21st century job market.

“It is now very imperative that we tie the sort of education we give the youth to the dictate of the job market. A graduate must not only be able to read, write, and speak good English; he must possess at least two skills that he can immediately begin to deploy after leaving school to earn productive living,” the Minister asserted.
