Kwara Governor celebrates Dr. Adam Abdullahi as he wins $150,000 Global HIV Research Grant

Kwara State Governor AbdulRahman AbdulRazaq congratulated Lafiagi-born Nigeria’s infection and global health scientist, Dr. Adam Hussein Abdullahi PhD for winning the Collaborative Initiative for Paediatric HIV Education and Research (CIPHER) Grant.

The CIPHER Grant valued at $150,000 was awarded to four researchers worldwide after a competitive process involving at least 1,000 applicants.

Abdullahi, a child of Dr. Abdullahi Amanah, president of the Lafiagi Descendants’ Development Union (LADDU), is one of the two African recipients of the grant in this cycle. The recipient is a former Harvard Takemi Fellow and Research Associate at the University of Cambridge, with his research areas including SARS-CoV-2 vaccine immunogenicity in West Africa and Mpox transmission risks in Nigeria.

Governor AbdulRazaq in a statement on Sunday by his Chief Press Secretary, Rafiu Ajakaye described it as the huge feat and a reward for his years of research and professional commitment to making a difference in the global efforts to tackle HIV pandemic.

The Governor urged Dr. Abdullahi to remain committed to his humanitarian mission of helping young children lead meaningful lives despite their HIV status.

“We are proud of the achievements of Dr. Adam Hussein Abdullahi, and we wish him many years of greater breakthroughs and recognitions in his field,” according to the Governor.
