NILDS Director General Pays Tribute To Late Lecturer, Professor Okello Oculi

The Director General National Institute for Legislative and Democratic Studies NILDS Professor Abubakar Olanrewaju Sulaiman has described the death of Professor Okello Oculi at 83 as a personal loss and the Africa’s academic sanctuary in general.

This is contained in a statement issued on 28th July 2025 by his Media Aide Mohammad Abdulkadri.

Professor Sulaiman recalled that: “Professor Okello Oculi was my highly respected Lecturer in the department of Political Science Ahmadu Bello University, Zaria during my undergraduate years”.

He stated further: ” Oculi shaped my intellectual horizons, inspired my deep scholarly instincts and sharpened my interest for Africanism”

Professor Sulaiman also submitted proudly that ; “The late Ugandan poet expanded the frontiers of research and teaching spanning over four decades in Nigeria and will be remembered for promoting the sanctity of African culture and unity citing his pioneering Mock Summits with the Organisation of African Unity ( OAU) and the African Union Headquarters( AU).

While praying for the soul of Professor Oculi to rest with the Lord, the former Minister of National Planning recalled his disdain for western attires and his principled obsession with African outfits as testament to his unwavering love for everything Africa.

He prayed to God to grant his family and the academics the fortitude to bear the great loss.
