Sanwo-Olu Swears in 57 Council Chairmen, Says Lagos LGs Now Have Full Autonomy
Lagos State Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu has revealed that Local governments now have full autonomy and access their funds directly.
Sanwo-Olu disclosed this on Sunday during the swearing in of 57 newly elected chairmen and vice chairmen local governments and local council development areas (LCDAs) in Lagos State.
According to him, Local governments now have full autonomy, with direct access to their funds, and that means direct accountability. No excuses. We will support you, but we will also hold you to the highest standards.

He therefore charged the new council chairmen to build better roads, functional health centers, schools, clean markets, and create real opportunities for youth.
His words: “Today, I swore in the newly elected chairmen and vice chairmen across our 57 local governments and LCDAs.
“I reminded them that leadership is about service. Our people have placed their trust and their dreams in their hands. They want safer streets, better roads, functional health centers, thriving schools, clean markets, and real opportunities for our youth.
“Lagos is counting on you to bring real development to every street, every ward, and every community. Lagos deserves nothing less.”
The Deputy Governor, Dr Obafemi Hamzat, Lagos APC Chairman, Pastor Cornelius, First Lady, Dr Ibijoke Sanwo-Olu and other dignitaries attended the event at Lagos Government House, Ikeja.
They were elected on July 12 during 2025 Lagos local government elections conducted by Lagos State Independent Electoral Commission.
