Two Ministers, NDC Vice Chairman, 5 others Die in Ghana Plane Crash

Two serving Ministers, National Democratic Congress Vice Chairman and five others die as a Ghana Armed Forces helicopter crashed on Wednesday.

The aircraft, identified as a Z9 helicopter, took off from Accra at 9:12 am and was en route Obuasi, Ashanti Region when it lost contact with air traffic control.

Ghana’s Ministers of defence and environment; Hon. Edward Omane Boamah and Hon. Ibrahim Murtala Muhammed respectively died along with six other people. The authorities have not confirmed the cause of the crash.

The chief of staff has directed the country’s flags to fly at half-mast.

Other deceased are: Alhaji Muniru Mohammed, Deputy National Security Coordinator, Samuel Sarpong, Vice Chairman of the ruling NDC, three crew members and 1 additional passenger.

Ghanaian President, John Mahama described the loss as “devastating” and hailed the fallen as “dedicated public servants and military personnel who died in the line of duty office.
