Oyewale Oyelola, Osogbo

The Social Democratic Party (SDP) has disclosed that the party will adopt direct primary system to pick its flagbearer for September 22 governorship election in Osun State.

The Osun State Chapter Chairman, Dr. Bayo Faforiji made this known on Thursday while featuring on a live radio programme in Osogbo.

Dr. Faforiji said the party will not use delegate system which is prone to manipulation, adding every registered member of SDP will be given opportunity to select their candidate.

He noted that the party leadership from the headquarters, Abuja will send officials to monitor primary election across all the wards in the state.

He expressed optimism that the primary election of the party will be credible, free and fair, stating that SDP will emerge victorious in the forthcoming governorship poll.

The former Commissioner added that three aspirants including Senator Iyiola Omisore have signified their interest to vie for party’s governorship ticket during Primary Election coming up on July 18, 2018.

Faforiji revealed that he was duly elected as the State Chairman of SDP during the State Congress held on Saturday in Osogbo. He therefore called on all aggrieved party members to shelve their sword and work for interest of the party.

He also debunked the allegation that he is a puppet of Iyiola Omisore, noting that ‘I am old enough to know what i want, I am not a puppet to anybody. We are going to create level playing for every aspirant during primary election’.

He charged all the party members to intensify their mobilization efforts ahead September 22 governorship election.
