Kwara 2027: Zoning Won’t Jettisoned Competence, Group Backs Senator Sadiq
The Kwara Youth Progressive Alliance (KYPA) has stated that the zoning agitation of governorship seat to Kwara North would not be an avenue to Jettison competence in selecting the next Governor.
The Group Representative, Aisha Manko while addressing a press conference held on Saturday in Ilorin, urged The All Progressives Congress (APC) to adopt Senator Sadiq Suleiman Umar as the party’s candidate for Kwara 2027 governorship election.
KYPA stated Pharmacist Sadiq Umar who is the Senator representing Kwara North possesses credentials and experience to lead Kwara State after impressive performance of Governor AbdulRahman AbdulRazaq.
According to KYPA, the call followed extensive consultations carried out over the past five months with party leaders at the grassroots, elders, support groups, and Kwarans in the diaspora.
They noted that the outcome of these engagements reflects a strong desire for inclusivity and justice within the party.
The group stated that Kwara North has, for decades, been denied the opportunity to occupy the highest executive office in the state, stressing that the APC now carries a moral responsibility to address this imbalance.
“This is not a call for charity or sympathy, but a demand rooted in the progressive ideals of equity and fairness which our party represents,” the group said.
While advocating for zoning of the governorship ticket to Kwara North, KYPA maintained that competence must not be compromised. It described Senator Sadiq Suleiman Umar as a candidate who combines both merit and regional consideration.
KYPA attributed their endorsement to Umar’s track record, experience in governance, development initiatives and policy engagement.
They applauded Governor Abdulrahman Abdulrazaq’s contributions across sectors such as education, healthcare, infrastructure, and social welfare.
They expressed confidence that Senator Umar possesses the capacity to consolidate these gains if elected governor in 2027.
