How Governor Biodun Increased Ekiti IGR
Governor Biodun Oyebanji has increased Ekiti State Internally Generated Revenue of the state from N650million to N2.3billion monthly.
The sporadic increase in Ekiti State IGR has been attributed to financial re-engineering, deployment of digital tools and motivation of revenue collection agency by Governor Oyebanji.
Recall that the state emerged first alongside Niger State in IGR Collection Rating by Joint Tax Board (JTB) in 2024.
The report circulated by the Joint Tax Board (JTB) at its 155th meeting at Zuma Rock Resort, Suleja ranked Niger State, Ekiti State first in the 2023 Annual Growth Rate Ranking.
The state’s Internally Generated Revenue (IGR) increased from ₦17.03b in 2022 to ₦29.82b in 2023, representing a 75 percent growth rate.
The State Commissioner for Information, Hon. Taiwo Olatunbosun in recent interview attributed the great feat to Governor Oyebanji’s leadership and understanding of the state economy.
He noted that the current administration has successfully built public trust and investors’ confidence by creating a stable and sustainable conducive environment for investments through effective policies on transparency and ethical behaviour.
His words: “Tax payers are actually seeing what Government is doing with the money paid as taxes. They can see the completed and ongoing road projects spread across the three senatorial districts; rehabilitation and upgrade of all public secondary schools and most primary schools; upgrading of hospitals across the State; improvement and provision of electricity to communities that had been underserved for over a decade among others”.
