How Hon. Mashood Mustapha’s (MM)Acceptance of Abdulrasaq Candidature is Changing the Narrative
The official recognition and acceptance of Alh. Abdulrahman Abdulrazaq’s candidature as Kwara All Progressives Congress (APC) governorship flag bearer by Hon. Mashood Mustapha is fast changing the narrative within and outside the party as we approach the 2019 general elections.
Many political observers who know Hon. Mustapha as a dogged fighter would have expected him to challenge the fallout of the APC primary election held on October 6, 2018 in the court after his illegal disqualification from the race.
However, the former federal lawmaker decided to sheath his sword by accepting the candidate that emerged from the primaries for the party’s interest and his commitment towards making a better Kwara possible via election of APC governorship candidate come 2019.
Although, the outcome of the reconciliation championed by APC National Chairman, Comrade Adams Oshiomhole might not be the justice MM deserve to address his purported disqualification by some selfish elements, but it’s better to lose the battle than the war. It is on record that the former federal lawmaker did not participate in the Kwara APC gubernatorial primary election.
To this end, Kwara APC governorship candidate, Alhaji Abdulrahman Abdulrasaq during his visit to Hon. Mashood Mustapha Campaign Office disclosed that the national leadership of APC will issue a public apology to MM and circulate it in national dailies, noting that MM did nothing wrong to warrant his disqualification.
Many people were happy with MM’s acceptance of Abdulrahman Abdulrasaq because Kwara APC can only win the general elections as a united house. Asides that, the experience of Hon. Mashood Mustapha would be handy for the party due to his indepth knowledge of Kwara political terrain. He will not only work with others to develop strategies to win the election, but also offer advice on how to prevent rigging.
Furthermore, the decision of the Isale Aluko born politician to deploy his formidable political structure to ensure the success of APC in the forthcoming election deserves commendation. Without doubt, MM should be the most aggrieved aspirant after using his time, resources and others to give the party good foundation in Kwara state but he has proved his doubters wrong by putting party/state’s interest first.
It is therefore, imperative for other aggrieved aspirants/party members to toll the path of honour by rallying round all party candidates as we move to the critical stage which is the campaign.
The party leadership on their part, should issue a public apology to MM as promised so as to enable him focus on how to work with other stakeholders to deliver Kwara for President Muhammadu Buhari and ensure the victory of all party’s candidates in the state.
The ultimate desire of every party member at the moment should be how to collectively enthrone a government that would improve the well being of citizenry as well as fast track development of the state. This can only be achieved in unison.
